And in with 2007
Tuesday 9 January 2007
It’s January, and this year, that means a new office for Spinglobe. We’ve spent a lot of the past month building a new space at the Merchants of Green Coffee building (you can see it from the Don Valley Parkway; it’s midway between Dundas and Queen), with the help of our new neighbours: putting in studs and drywall, mudding and painting, and generally turning a raw space at the back of an old warehouse building into a new home for our crew of oddballs.
Above: the old Spadina office (left) and the new office on Matilda. Toni, the more gregarious of the building’s two cats, comes to pay Sean a visit.
We’re still moving in, but we love it already. For one thing, we can actually walk around the place without tripping over one another. We have a meeting room, and space for all kinds of plants, and some wonderful neighbours in the building, including two cats and two cockatoos.
Lots more to tell. I have a few book reviews to do, for one thing, and possibly some television as well.

I’ll have a panoramic view soon, once the dust settles.
Re: Home of the Brave: yeah, it’s pretty damn cool, ain’t it? I still remember sitting at your place watching that first big dance number in utter astonishment. And the radar dish. And Adrian Belew playing his guitar with a knife and fork.

That’s right, I forgot we’d watched that, maybe shortly before recording a certain “sad cat.”
Laurie Anderson has said that she invented the dances so that other musicians could follow her unorthodox rhythms.
And Belew mutilating his guitar! If you don’t already have it, check out Zappa’s “Baby Snakes” DVD. Adrian Belew (so young!) doesn’t get many chances to shine, but it’s worth it to see a band full of supremely skilled and unorthodox musicians, all held in check by Zappa’s iron fist.
It’s worth it just to watch Terry Bozzio.

Grin.
What? Me? Boozing? That was the CAT!
Wow. It’s amazing to see the two workspaces in contrast!

I thought the cat had a troublesome look in its eye. Drunk cats are okay…it’s the BAD drunks that are the problem!

What a gorgeous workspace! And nice to see Sean boozing on the job. :)
PS: I got “Home of the Brave.” Holy cow. It’s rare that anything actually improves with time, but I think it looks better today than ever…we have sufficient buffer-room to look at the outfits and say “yes, avant-garde, cool then.”
And both “Gravity’s Angel” and “Kokoku” still give me shivers, far more than their studio equivalents.
